Following the cancellation of the May 3rd exam, the government confirmed that a re-examination will take place on June 21, 2026. To ensure that students and families do not face a financial burden due to administrative errors, the NTA has activated a specific refund policy.
1. Who is Eligible for the Refund?
Every single candidate who successfully registered and paid the application fee for the cancelled May 3rd NEET UG 2026 exam is eligible for a full refund. You are eligible regardless of whether you actually appeared for the cancelled test or were absent.
2. Is There a Fee for the Re-Exam?
No. The re-examination scheduled for June 21, 2026, is completely free for all previously registered candidates. You do not need to pay any fresh fees, and you do not need to fill out a new registration form. All your candidate data from the first cycle will automatically be carried forward.
3. How to Claim Your Refund (The Online Process)
As of May 21, 2026, the NTA has activated a dedicated fee refund module on their official portal. Since the original payment may have been made months ago (or through third-party cyber cafes), the NTA requires candidates to explicitly submit the bank account details where they want the refund deposited.
Here are the steps to follow:
- Visit the Official Portal: Go to the official NEET website: neet.nta.nic.in
- Log In: Use your existing NEET UG 2026 Application Number and Password (or Date of Birth) to access your candidate dashboard.
- Locate the Refund Link: Look for the newly activated link titled “NEET 2026 Fee Refund Module” or “Bank Detail Submission for Refund.”
- Enter Bank Details: Carefully enter a valid, active bank account number, account holder name, and IFSC code. Ensure this is an account you have direct access to (like a personal or parent’s account).
- Verify and Submit: Cross-check the details and submit the form.
Note: Once processed, the NTA will credit the refund amount directly to the bank account you provide in this module.
4. Important Update on Exam City Preferences
Alongside the refund module, the NTA had also temporarily opened a correction window for candidates to update their exam city preferences for the June 21st re-test.
If your residential address has changed, you were allowed to log in and update:
- Your current residential address.
- Your first preferred exam city.
- Your second preferred exam city. (Note: This specific correction window is scheduled to close on May 21, 2026, at 11:50 PM).
5. What Should Students Do Next?
- Submit Bank Details: Complete the refund module as soon as possible.
- Monitor for Admit Cards: Since the re-exam is on June 21, the NTA will issue fresh admit cards indicating your new center and reporting times. Your old admit card is invalid.
- Prepare for June 21: Use the extra time to revise. Remember that the medium/language of the exam you selected originally cannot be changed.
