Massive Crackdown: X Withholds Cockroach Janta Party Account in India Hours After Overtaking BJP on Instagram

In a major escalation between India’s viral digital movement and regulatory authorities, Elon Musk’s social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has officially withheld the account of the satirical political outfit Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) within Indian jurisdiction.

The abrupt enforcement action occurred today, May 21, 2026, just hours after the meme-driven group achieved a historic milestone by crossing 10 million followers on Instagram, officially surpassing the official Instagram following of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The handle @CJP_2029 now displays a blank screen for users accessing the platform from India, replaced by a bold notice stating: “@CJP_2029 has been withheld in IN in response to a legal demand.”

Legal Demands Target the “Swarm”

According to documentation protocols from X, content or account withholding is executed upon receiving a “valid and properly scoped request from an authorized entity,” typically indicating an official directive issued by India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) or a law enforcement agency under Section 69A of the IT Act.

The party’s 30-year-old founder, Abhijeet Dipke, who is currently managing the viral campaign while pursuing his Master’s degree at Boston University in the United States, confirmed the domestic block by uploading a screenshot of the restriction.

“As expected, Cockroach Janta Party’s account has been withheld in India,” Dipke stated on his personal handle, suggesting that the organizers anticipated a regulatory crackdown given the staggering momentum of the movement.

The Political Clash Behind the Phenomenon

The dramatic rise and subsequent restriction of the CJP has hyper-polarized Indian social media spaces. Critics and pro-government commentators have accused the satirical front of being a coordinated opposition “plant” designed to orchestrate anti-establishment propaganda under the guise of Gen-Z humor.

These allegations intensified today after older social media posts surfaced showing Dipke’s past affiliations as a digital campaign volunteer for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) between 2020 and 2023, including a viral image of him alongside senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia. Sisodia himself threw his weight behind the movement yesterday via an Instagram video, stating: “If there is a war between a crocodile and cockroaches, I will proudly stand with the Cockroach Janta Party.”

While opposition figures like Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra and senior advocate Prashant Bhushan have openly backed the platform to highlight severe youth issues like paper leaks and unemployment, critics argue the page’s sharp 5-point manifesto goes far beyond mere satire, targeting critical state structures, corporate houses, and judicial bodies.

Shifting Focus: Bihar By-Election on the Horizon

Despite the setback on X, the movement shows no signs of slowing down on other social media applications. Its central platform claims to have clocked more than 3.5 lakh verified member registrations via its core portal.

In a surprising pivot from online satire to tangible physical politics, internal organizers have confirmed that the Cockroach Janta Party is actively vetting field strategies to back an independent, youth-centric candidate in the upcoming Bankipur Assembly constituency by-election in Bihar. The calculated move aims to directly test whether their massive digital audience can translate into actual voter turnouts against dominant regional political coalitions.
